What is a Rebozo?

Mexican women have been using Rebozos for hundreds of years, and we are only now beginning to catch on to the wonderful ways that they can enhance our everyday life!

How can a Rebozo be used?

Here are just a few ways they can be used are:

• As wraps and shawls to keep you warm in cooler weather
• As pregnancy and labor tools for midwives and doulas
• As baby slings

A Baby Sling

Rebozos can also be used as a baby sling. The Mexican women have used it for years and are experts at different ways Rebozos can be tied.

We prefer the Rebozo to other baby slings because of its versatility and because it is totally natural. There are no non-natural materials attached to it, tying the knot is simple and you will not need constantly re-adjust. You can tie the baby onto your back, your hip, the front, or your shoulders. You can also easily carry two babies, either one on each hip, or one on the back and one on the front. If you forget a blanket for your picnic, you've got one handy!

These are also wonderful because you can breastfeed and no one will even notice. If you are blessed with an abundance of breasts ("especially soft" as our children like to call it), OR have a husband you want to make sure these fit on, no worries here. There are enough options and material to provide you with plenty of room for every body size!

A Labor Tool

Rebozos have multi-purpose functions as pregnancy and labor tools. They can be used to help support a very pregnant and pendulous belly, as a massage tool for lower back pain, and help with changing the position of a posterior positioned or even a breech baby. During labor a Rebozo is more commonly known to be used during the second stage, helping the mother push effectively and be in a position that can widen the pelvis. In not so technical terms it is called the "tug-of-war" position.

Not all Rebozo's are created equally...

The quality of a Rebozo is usually judged by the woven details within the main section, the strength and the intricacy of the end pieces. The hand-tied "barbas" or tail/fringes, add much detail, beauty and value to each of the Rebozos. The Rebozos with a much more intricate, lengthy and detailed barba are considered a very high quality, well crafted Rebozo as compared to those with a much more simple barba.
